How does acupuncture treat neuropathy?

  • Regenerates peripheral nerves in both diabetic and nondiabetic patients
  • With proper stimulation, peripheral nerves can regenerate at a rate of an inch per month, twice the speed of human hair growth
  • Improves nerve conduction in peripheral neuropath
  • Reestablishes communication between the brain and spinal cord and the rest of the body

What the research says:

  • For diabetic peripheral neuropathy, one study showed that patients receiving medications jumped from an 37.5% neuropathy disability success rate to over a 90% success rate when acupuncture was added to the treatment regimen.
  • For idiopathic peripheral neuropathy (neuropathy of an unknown origin), a study showed that acupuncture treatment resulted in an improvement in 76% of participants.
  • For chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, one study showed that after 6 weeks of acupuncture treatment, 86% of patients reported improvement.
